Lightmare
Project aimed at making an experience prototype.
The proposal seeks to offer a new alternative for interaction between comatose patients and their care-givers. It is a prospective proposal is futuristic and conceptualized based on our research on the advancement of technology in about 5-10 years.
It consists of a tech driven system that can detect the brain activity of patients in a coma, such as their dreams and feeling and convert them into frequencies and then translate into melodies or sounds allowing their caregivers to be aware. This system could open up a door of hope, belief and make the journey of the patient and the caregiver slightly easier.
This academic project was carried out for the Visualization and Prototyping course in the "Product-service system design" master's degree at the Politecnico di Milano.
Our assignment started with analysing an Netflix Black Mirror's episode "Be Right Back" on the basis of the impact of technology in the future and imagine a positive technological impact using methodologies of design methods and human-centered design.
Persona
Even though we were creating fictional personas, it got us to also do research of people, places, habits while also compairing them with the
future time we were imagining in our scenario. In the process of building these personas, we had some amount of disagreements within the group , but even while doing that we learnt a lot about each other’s strengths as team-mates
Lightmare is a service created for coma-patients families. It's a way to continue interacting with them during their vegetative state and to stimulate their brain activity with different sensorial sensations. It’s scientifically proved that interacting with a patient affected by a coma help him/her recovering in a safer and faster way.
This technology arises from the latest clinical researches in this field (in 2025-2030): exploiting the brand new codification machines, that some doctors developed to translate someone's memories, dreams and reactions into immediate electric signals, we are able to create symphonies, rhythm or sounds that reminds us the specific state of mind of the patient.
